WINNER OF THE 2008-2009 QUATTROCHI MERIT SCHOLARSHIPphoto of Kimberly Christense

Kimberly Christensen was born in Phoenix, AZ and has two older siblings, and two well-loved golden retrievers. Kim went to Moon Valley High School in Phoenix before coming here to the College of Charleston.
Kim played on the College of Charleston Cougar softball team her freshman year, but she now focuses on her academics by majoring in Biology and minoring in both Psychology and Neuroscience. Kim is the Historian in the Honors Student Association, as she enjoys scrapbooking and preserving memories of students here at the College. She also does research in the lab of Dr. Meyer-Bernstein on mammalian circadian rhythms. She is currently exploring circadian rhythms in knockout mice for Homer 2, a scaffolding protein found in the suprachiasmatic nucleus of the hypothalamus. In her spare time, Kim enjoys reading, sports, shopping, and spending time with friends, family, and animals. In addition, Kim volunteers at MUSC in the General Surgery department; she is graduating May 2009 and is hoping to go to medical school in the fall of 2009.
