Mission Statement

The SCAMP Program at the College of Charleston is designed to increase the quality and quantity of underrepresented minority students who complete baccalaureate degree in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines and who successfully transition to pursue advanced graduate STEM degrees.

SCAMP supports sustained and comprehensive community engagement with the aim of promoting scientific inquiry and recruiting talented minorities into science, technology, engineering and mathematic (STEM) fields.

Our program primary focuses on underrepresented minority students as defined by the National Science Foundation (African American, Hispanic American, Native American, and Pacific Islanders).

Scholars participate in bi-monthly meetings and activities related to their academic major, including research exposure, tutoring, mentoring, and career counseling. SCAMP students also have unique opportunities to attend local and national conferences, receive summer internship opportunities, and facilitated access to graduate/professional schools.
